sky juice

as i had mentioned before, i have a friend who's birthday fell on last saturday. together with some close friends, we had dinner at a coffeeshop near my house, ordering "zhi cha". anyway, the "drinks" man came over and asked what we wished to drink. we placed our orders promptly.

let's changed the scenario. say we were eating in a restaurant. be it fish&co or one of those italian/japanese/chinese/whatever restaurant...

after taking the orders, the waitress/waiter would ask: drinks?

the most likely reply?

ice water, please.

it does not matter which group of friends i'm with. chances are that we'll order ice water with our meal. well, at least we're not the only table who'll order ice water. it seems like the "normal" thing to do in singapore.

sometimes i wonder...

since we are there enjoying a meal. why not order a drink? perhaps a juice? a beer? a wine? anything except ice water.

dont give me the crap reason that it's for health that one orders ice water. it's the price that puts people off. well, since you are there, why not pay a few extra dollars? if price is such a concern, why eat at the restaurant in the first place?

one of the first things i learnt while working at delifrance during my secondary school days was that sometimes, instead of ice water, plain water or water, a customer would ask for sky juice.

the first sentence that came from me was a simple what is sky juice?

the manager replied: some people want to act high class mah

high class? go order an evian then.

beside, isn't sky juice rainwater?
