Are you vicariously living through me in the hope that my accomplishments will validate your mediocre life and in some way compensate for all of the opportnunities you botched?

redang

over the long weekend, courtesy of good friday, i went to redang.

it was a tiring trip.

the journey to the jetty was still not too bad, it was night time and traffic was light.

plus i slept during the journey.

and the boat ride, that was the most exhilaratingly boat ride i had ever ridden.

i was so afraid the hull would break into pieces considering the speed the boat was going.

my heart was in my throat almost all the time.
...
i was there on a dive trip.

i did my basic open water course at pulau aur, a really tranquil and nice place.

this time at redang, i was doing my advance and the only reason for doing the advance course is to dive deeper to 40m (instead of 18m) and to dive at night.

it was said that once you dive to a certain depth, you will get nitrogen narcosis, a state which is similar to alcohol intoxication.

i'm sure it will be a very interesting experience.

alas, i failed to reach that state at 28m. 28m was the deepest my instructor lead me.
...
the worst day of diving is definitely better than the best day of working.

i saw the above painted outside the dive shop.

i agreed to a certain extent.

it was a totally different world down there.

most of the time, you will only heard your own breathing...and the air bubbles you exhaled in water.

with the water supporting your weight and you slowly fin your way around...

very zen!
...
highlight of the trip was seeing a sotong 'dancing' in front of me during my night dive.

it's a very surreal feeling, water is pitch dark and all you had was the light from torchlights.

all the divers' light were on the sotong, 5 to 6 beams on it.

it was definitely the star that night.
...
next was seeing the turtle up close without it swimming away. the closest i was to it was about 5cm, when it actually swam slowly under my feet.

saw lots of clownfish, so nothing much to shout about.
...
sure, i saw lots of other fishes too.

but i dont know their names...
